Rene
looked around for a place to sit so that he can catch up with his
breath. The place was strewn around with rocks and little shrubs.
Oops, he found lot of earthworms around the rocks and did he see
a a snake which is sneaking by? Rene moved to the other end of the
hill where there were no plants and found a rock to sit. It was
a beautiful view to see from the hill. White sand beaches with blue
Ocean water on one side and with historic buildings and houses on
the other side. The sun was getting closer to the horizon providing
an orange glow to the whole town. It was eye-appealing! A gentle
breeze was soothing the entire place. Max was sitting with him and
appeared to be enjoying the scene too!
Rene was wondering what the time could be? He thought it may be
around 4:30pm. Rene cherished the solitude and the settings. He
leaned back on the rock and gently closed his eyes to preserve the
beauty he saw in his memory.
Rene did not know how long he was
closing his eyes but he heard a brewing thunder-like sound from
a long distance. Before he could decipher the nature of the sound
it approached fast towards him. He rose up immediately but was thrown
off the feat on to the ground. A big thunder like sound vibration
went past him. He felt the earth surface was sinking and shaking.
He felt a strong vibration running through his spine creating nausea.
Rene could not feel how long the vibration lasted but it stopped.
Rene was confused, shocked and nauseated as he was lying curled
up on the ground. He got up to relieve the nausea but started coughing
deeply as the air was filled with dust. He looked around and could
not see anything. The entire surrounding was filled with dust. The
beautiful scene which he preserved in his mind has vanished in a
fraction of a second. His vision was blocked with dust around. Suddenly
he remembered that he came with Max and looked around for Max. He
saw Max curled up in fear and lying near him.
As he was trying to understand the happenings around him meteorological
centers around the world were sending emergency messages saying,
“There was a 7.0 earthquake recorded at 18 degree north and
68 degree west. Coastal towns along the North Atlantic and North
Pacific are warned for high tides and tsunamis. “
Rene did not know what was happening around him but was busy trying
to comprehend the happenings.
