slowly sprung to prominence ...
story part 2... continued (2)
All
of a sudden the rubble started moving all over. There was this familiar
rumbling sound followed by a tremble. It was a post-tremor. There
were loud screams all around followed by an eerie silence. The tremor
stopped. Rene fell over the rumble and got his leg stuck inside
a rafter. Rene tried to pull his legs out of the rafter gently.
But he could not avoid the rafter scraping his cloth and the skin.
Blood started oozing out of his legs. However he had little time
to worry about this small injury. His mind was focused to find his
Dad.
Rene got up and again looked around to have a look inside the rubble.
In fact, the latest tremor really helped him. It displaced the rubbles
creating a perfect opening for him to see through. But it was pitch
dark inside and he could not see much. He started calling out “Dad,
Dad” multiple times with no answer. As each minute passed
by, Rene was worried.
At the same time Max started barking from below. Rene understood
that Max is trying to communicate something. So he rushed down to
the bottom of the pile. Max was trying to remove something with
his paws. Rene started helping Max to remove the big items. Below
that he could see a shirt which was his Dad’s. He thanked
god as it was just his shirt.
Rene was running out of ideas and
he was aware that the time is running out too. He started going
around the rubbles bellowing “Dad, Dad” for every 2
steps. He did not have any response from any location. As he was
wondering what to do next he noticed a strange thing – his
house’s front door, lying among the rubbles, is locked from
outside. He paused for a moment, went closer and pulled the lock
to confirm that it is locked. It is! Does this mean his dad was
not inside the house when the earthquake occurred?
To him it appeared to be true. His dad is not inside the rubble.
Otherwise the house door would not have been locked from outside.
But where did he go? Did he go to the hospital? He was not sure
but he was feeling optimistic that his dad was somewhere safe. Rene
did not want to waste any more time and along with Max started rushing
towards the hospital where his mom, sister and the baby were there
…
On reaching the hospital his heart really broke. The entire hospital
was in shambles… It was the same scene as in the market place.
He looked around for his mom, sister, baby and dad. They were nowhere
to be found.
