Tamil Songs: A tribute to Evergreen poet Vaali !
Our picks!

Padmashree Vaali (real name TS Rangarajan) served the movie industry for five decades and holds the record for most songs written in Tamil - 15,000! Even though Vaali penned his first song in 1958 for the movie Azhagar Malai Kallan, he was largely an unknown entity until MGR patronaged him to break the monopoly of Kaviperarasu Kannadasan. His blockbuster song "tharai mel pirakka vaithan ..." for the MGR movie "Padagotti" made him a regular in all MGRs movie. There was no turning back for him from then on!

The beauty of Vaali is how he adapted himself to the post-MGR era. In the post-MGR era, he was patronaged by Ilaiyaraja to break the hold of Vairamuthu on the lyric industry. Later when AR Rahman came, he wrote some of the youthful and modernized lyrics which contained the mix of various languages like Hindi, English along with Tamil. He wrote for almost all the music composers including the new entrants. He was writing till his last day and his hit songs are still rolling into the air waves!

It will really take someone with extra-ordinary skills to fill the void created by Vaali. May his soul RIP. Our thoughts and prayers are for his family members.

It is not easy to pick few best songs out of 15,000 songs. However, we have tried our best to identify songs which were milestones or popular duing his career.
