A
woman, calling into a local hospital and said, "Hello,
I want to know if a patient is getting better."
The
voice on the other end of the line said, "What
is the patient's name and room number?"
She
said, "Yes, darling! She's Maria Garcia, in Room
number 201."
He
said, "Oh, yes. Mrs. Garcia
is doing very well. In fact, she's had two full meals,
her blood pressure is fine, she's going to be taken
off the heart monitor in a couple of hours and if she
continues this improvement, Dr. Brookes is going to
send her home Tuesday."
The
man on the phone said, "From your enthusiasm, I
take it you must be a close family member or a very
close friend!"
She
said, "I'm Maria
Garcia
in 201! Brookes,
my doctor, doesn't tell me a word!"
Recipe Spot:Oat Pancake (Dosa)
Oat which was once considered a poor
man's food has now evolved as a king of modern foods. For a long
time Oat was considered as a weed growing among wheat and barley
fields. Over time, people harvested Oats to feed it for livestocks.
Later poor people belonging to the lowest level of the olden society
used it as a food to avoid starvation. Today scientists have discovered
that oats contain rich nutrients which can substantially lower cholesterol
reducing the risk of heart disease, boost the immune system, and
stabilize blood sugar levels. There are 6 form of Oats - Groat,
Oat bran, Rolled Oats, Quick Oats and Instant Oatmeal, Steel cut
Oats, Scottish Oat. Here are the definitions:
Groat - An oat which
has its outer husk, or hull, removed from an oat is called a groat. Oat bran - The oat bran is the outer casing that
is removed with the hull from the groats during the milling process.
Rolled Oats - Rolled oats are oat groats that are
steamed, rolled, and flaked so that they cook quickly.. Quick Oats - Quick oats are thinner flakes of rolled
oats. Quick oats are often used in baked goods for a lighter texture
than rolled oats. Instant Oat meal - Instant oatmeal are rolled thin
but are then cooked and dried. Instant oatmeal comes in single packets
and contains additives and sweeteners. Steel cut Oats - Steel cut oats are groats that
have been chopped into smaller pieces. Used for people who do not
like the mushy texture of Rolled Oats. Scottish Oats - Scottish oats are groats that have
been ground into a meal for porridge. When cooled the porridge becomes
thick and solid. In Medieval times they would cut the cooled porridge
into thick slices then fry them for a hearty lunch.
