Interestingly, 2011 music charts are topped by debut
composers and yet to establish composers.
There were more than a dozen new composers debuted
this year. Few of them were - Anirudh (3), Sathya C (Engeyum Eppodhum),
M Ghibran (Vaagai Sooda Vaa), Saajan Madhav (Muran), Karthik (Aaravan),
PB Balaji (Sooran), Kingsley Vincent (Theni Mavattam), Arul Dev
(Paakanum Pola Irukku), Vijay Verma (Kaatu Puli), Abhishek Lawrence
(Doo), Prakash Nikhil (Rowthiram). One could feel the effort put
by these composers in their debut songs. Most of the songs are of
high quality. It is difficult to believe that there were so many
talented musicians waiting in the wings. Not sure how many will
survive the test of time however our best wishes to every one of
them.
Composers like SS Thaman and Kannan really consolidated
their position this year. Thaman's 'Osthi' is one of the best album
for this year. You must check out "Mouna Guru' too. Kannan
on other hand turned out beautiful melodies in 'Chaplin Saamanthi'
and 'Mye'. Joshua Sridhar (Vithagan), D.Imman (Uchithanai Muharnthal),
Srikanth Deva (Pulivesam) added some good numbers for this year.
.
Other established composers like Harris Jeyaraj, Vijay
Anthony, Yuvan Shankar Raja, G V Prakash, Devi Sri Prasad has maintained
their positions without any mis-steps. However, they will be closely
watching the stream of music composers taking roots in the industry.
